Our Lions Club of Rising Sun Coffee Pot was designed by one of our now deceased members, Bill McNamee, in early 1937 and built by members and supporters of our Club soon thereafter. It was originally used as a portable Hot Dog and Coffee vending booth. Since then it has become our most visible mascot and today we tow it to various events throughout the local area to promote awareness of our Lions Club and to help generate support for the work that we do.

LION VISION DAY - In 1925, at the International Association of Lions Clubs convention, in Chicago, Helen Keller challenged all Lions to become Knights of the Blind. The Association willingly accepted her request and as a result, each year on the last Saturday of April, we hold our annual Vision Day Event in the center of Rising Sun. On this day, we give small rolls of candy to passers-by in order to raise awareness of the need for vision research and to thank our community for their continuing support. We also accept used eye glasses, used hearing aids and monetary donations when they are offered. This event perhaps more than any other, symbolizes the Lions primary mission, which is Vision Research and Treatment of Vision Disorders. The eyeglasses and hearing aids are recycled to individuals with compatible needs and monetary donations benefit the The Lions Vision Research and Rehabilitation Center at Johns Hopkins' Wilmer Eye Institute in Baltimore Maryland, where they are used for research as well as diagnosis and treatment for individuals suffering from blindness and other vision disorders.

We would like to thank the members of American Legion Mason Dixon Post 194 in Rising Sun, for their prior service to our nation and their current support of our community and our Lions Club. We are fortunate to hold our meetings and several of our fundraising events at their beautiful facility and to have several of them as members of our Lions Club. It is through their willing and generous support that our Lions Club is able to accomplish many of it's goals and objectives. We would also like to thank the members and sponsors of Venturing Crew #28 for their continuing support. Their able assistance during some of our larger fundraising events makes our job much easier. We believe this organization develops fine young girls and boys who demonstrate their depth of character, and commitment to their community, through their support of our Lions Club. When the crew members become adults, we invite each of them to join our Lions Club and to continue their support of Lionism.
And perhaps most importantly, we would like to thank Everyone within our community who supports Lionism and contributes to our fundraising efforts. Your continued support is essential to fund vision research and to help many other worthwhile causes within our community.
